'Americano' Wins at 47th Annual Telly Awards, Deny Gallagher's Debut Feature Earns Recognition5/24/2026 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Deny Gallagher’s debut feature film Americano picked up three awards at the 47th annual Telly Awards ceremony: a silver in Craft-Directing for Film & Shorts, a bronze in General-Narrative for Film & Shorts, and a bronze in General-Drama for Film & Shorts. The Telly Awards recognize “video and television across all screens,” and this year received nearly 14,000 entries from creators, brands and production companies across 55 territories. Produced by New Jersey-based Palomino Productions, Americano follows Jack Armstrong, a college basketball star whose professional dreams come crashing down after tearing his ACL senior year. Back home rehabbing, he runs the Armstrong family’s coffee shop while reuniting with old friends and fighting to keep the business out of the hands of a local developer. The film — described as a coming-of-age story wrapped in a heist movie — stars Darren Weiss (Inside Man/Break) and Rondell Sheridan (That’s So Raven), alongside Samuel Dunning, Adrienne Laurén, Marcus R. Smith, Albania Sofia Sagarra and Lei Nico. It screened at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and is distributed by Gravitas Ventures. “Video has never been more contested, more creative, or more consequential than it is right now,” said Telly Awards managing director Amanda Needham in a statement. “The Telly Awards has had a front-row seat to this industry for 47 years, and today’s entertainment is happening in multiple formats, across every screen, and at every budget level.” “We’re honored to be recognized by the Telly Awards alongside so much incredible work. Thank you to the Telly Awards for this honor and for celebrating all of the great artists who worked on this film,” said Gallagher. The Telly Awards also expanded honors in animation, VFX and the fast-growing vertical video field. Among the broader pool of winners: Paramount TV, Warner Brothers Discovery, FOX Entertainment, MoMA, Mayo Clinic, Sony Music, TED, Al Jazeera, ABC News and Harvard Business School, among others. Telly Awards are chosen by a judging council made up of more than 250 experts from video. New judges this year included Google head of content and sponsorships Tamara Kruger, HBO executive VP of production Janet Graham Borba, WNBA chief marketing officer Phil Cook and Netflix post production senior manager Andrea Wertheim.
